DAY6 Received A New Title: The Guardians of Korean Words

Based on TEN Music, in 2024, it was really hard to find lyrics written in Korean, instead they used English as the main language under the goal of ‘success in the overseas market’.

According to the analysis of Top 10 songs on Melon’s monthly chart, the average English ratio of girl groups lyrics was 70.6%. On the other hand, boy groups relatively have a high proportion of Korean.

DAY6 could be called ‘The Guardians of Korean Words’. In 2024, they entered the charts with a total of five songs: “You Were Beautiful”, “Time of Our Life”, “Melt Down”, “Happy”, and “Welcome to the Show”. As a group that has gained attention for their lyrics, the proportion of Korean in their songs is really high. “You Were Beautiful” and “Melt Down”, in particular, were written in 96.72% and 94.19% Korean.

DAY6 has always been known for their well-written and relatable lyrics. The members always prove their ability to write amazing lyrics for each comeback. From their band, unit, until solo release, DAY6 has always been praised for their creativity and writing skills.

DAY6 also has some songs with full Korean lyrics, such as “days gone by”, “All Alone”, “Cover”, “Hurt Road”, “About Now”, and many more. Not only the band release, Wonpil, one of the members, released ‘Pilmography’ as his first solo album and all of the songs are written in Korean.

Not only do they write such relatable lyrics, you can also find several words that are not usually used. This can be a really good way to learn if you are learning Korean.
