South Korean singer and actress Choi Sooyoung, widely known as a member of the legendary K-pop group Girls’ Generation, has officially joined the cast of the Hollywood action thriller Ballerina, a spin-off of the popular John Wick franchise.
In Ballerina, Sooyoung takes on the role of Katla Park, a pivotal character whom the lead protagonist must protect during her first mission. The film follows the story of Rooney, portrayed by Ana de Armas, a young woman trained as a deadly assassin in the Ruska Roma crime syndicate. Driven by vengeance after the murder of her family, Rooney embarks on a journey of calculated revenge.
The film is set within the same universe as John Wick, and will also feature appearances by franchise regulars including Keanu Reeves as John Wick and Ian McShane as Winston.
Sooyoung expressed her excitement on social media, sharing a character poster with the caption, “She must be protected. Meet Katla on June 6.” The post instantly gained traction among fans worldwide, marking her official debut in Hollywood cinema.
Directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, Ballerina is scheduled to premiere in North America on June 6, 2025. While the release date for South Korea has yet to be announced, anticipation is already building among both action movie fans and K-pop enthusiasts.
Sooyoung’s Hollywood debut signals a major milestone in her acting career, expanding her presence from South Korean dramas and films to the international stage.
