NewJeans has announced a fresh start with a new name. On February 7, they shared the news on their official social media, revealing that they will now be known as ‘NJZ.’ They changed their account from ‘jeanzforfree’ to ‘njz_official’ and updated their profile picture to feature the new group logo with the name NJZ. Along with this, they also released a new photo shoot featuring all five members, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
Among those showing support was Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of ADOR and the creator of NewJeans, who liked their post, expressing her encouragement for their new journey. Min Hee-jin has always been a supportive figure for the group, understanding the significance of this next step in their career.
NJZ is now ready to begin their independent activities. From March 21 to 23, they will perform as the headliner at ‘ComplexCon Hong Kong,’ making their official debut on stage. Minji shared her excitement, saying, “I am really looking forward to performing on stage as NJZ for the first time. This stage is a significant moment for us, and I can’t wait to share the new music we’ve been working on with our fans.”
The members of NJZ expressed that starting this new chapter with their new name holds great meaning. Hani described it as “an exciting way to turn a challenging period into something interesting.” She emphasized that while they won’t be using the name NewJeans for a while, they will never forget those special times. “The time we spent as NewJeans will always be precious to us, and our fans hold those memories dearly,” Hani added. Dani also expressed confidence, saying, “We have lost all trust in ADOR. We believe we will win this battle against ADOR and HYBE.”
However, their journey hasn’t been without its challenges. NJZ made headlines in late November when they declared the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR. Since then, they’ve been embroiled in a legal dispute, with ADOR asserting that the contract is still valid. A hearing for this dispute will take place on March 7. Despite these obstacles, NJZ remains resolute in their decision and reassured fans that they are committed to moving forward.
